Lady sparks debate after telling men not to expect women they sponsor in school to marry them

A Nigerian lady has sparked debate after telling men not to expect women they sponsor in school to marry them after graduation.

In a video shared on X (formerly Twitter), the lady shared her opinion on men who work hard to pay a woman’s school fees, only for her to complete her education, become more exposed and eventually leave the relationship.

According to her, men should understand that a woman’s growth during those years could change her expectations, priorities and perspective about relationships and marriage.

In her words, she said:

“Of course I’m gonna leave you. Why would I go to school for four years, get my degree, and then come back and marry a vulcaniser? No shade. Thank you for the free tuition.”

The lady argued that some men make the mistake of believing that paying a woman’s school fees automatically guarantees that she will remain committed to them or eventually become their wife.

She explained that education could expose women to new opportunities, lifestyles and perspectives, making it possible for their expectations to change, therefore advising men not to expect marriage in return.

“If you really wanted to marry the girl, you have to get your money up, you have to get your intellectual up as well. If you stay at the same place and four years later your partner has risen, they’re gonna leave you. Don’t be telling them they’re a bad person for it,” she added.

Her remarks have generated debate online, with the discussion focusing on whether sponsoring a partner’s education should create an expectation of marriage and whether couples can remain together when their lives and aspirations change.
