Prophet Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, popularly known as Odumeje, has criticised the government over what he described as excessive celebration of the Onitsha Head Bridge in Anambra State.
Odumeje expressed his displeasure in a viral video circulating on social media, questioning why attention was being drawn to the bridge after maintenance work.
‘Holy Ghost will kpai you there’
In the video, the prophet warned people against celebrating the maintenance of the bridge, arguing that the structure had been in existence for decades.
“If I see any of you at Onitsha Head Bridge celebrating that you maintained a 1950s bridge for the South-East, Holy Ghost will kpaiii you there. This country has no conscience.
If you see the way the government is showing this bridge everywhere on the internet, you will think it is a newly constructed bridge, without knowing that it is a bridge built years ago.
Imagine someone celebrating his car that he parked for over 50 years after repainting it.”
His comments have since generated reactions online, with social media users divided over his criticism of the government’s presentation of the bridge maintenance.
Nigerians react
Kenneth Igili argued that residents of the South-East had little reason to celebrate the repainting or maintenance of the bridge.
“Nobody in the South-East needs a party for a repaint, and the palm-wine drinkers in Onitsha will tell you what they think of that. They should open the bridge first, then we’ll talk.”
Another user, Mickyiv4, praised Odumeje for speaking out and said religious leaders should be more vocal about issues concerning those in power.
“What is happening to Odumeje? Why has he become so radicalized, brazen & politically savvy? This is what we expect from ALL the religious heads of the major churches in Nigeria, ‘absolute truth to absolute power’ at all times without fear or favor.”
Obiesika wrote: “You Dey mind the nonsense governors we have in the south east,minus Otis Alex.”
However, Ayo disagreed with the criticism, writing: “Reason no serious goverment will take any ungrateful people serious.”
