On the heels of its recent cancellation, Spider-Noir has already raked in multiple 2026 Emmy wins. Prime Video/MGM+ canceled the Nicolas Cage series earlier this week after it debuted on the streamer in May. The series marked Cage’s first regular TV series and earned 11 Emmy Award nominations, the most out of any series for the streamer this year. At Sunday’s Creative Arts Emmys, the series took home five awards — stunt coordination for comedy programming, sound editing for a one-hour comedy or drama series, title design, special visual effects in a single episode and cinematography for a series. Supervising…
Chelsea suffered their first defeat of the 2026/27 Premier League season on Sunday, losing 2–1 to Arsenal at the Emirates in a game that produced plenty of talking points, particularly around officiating. Despite the result, the performance suggested Xabi Alonso’s side can compete with the league’s strongest teams. Chelsea made the perfect start when Morgan Rogers opened the scoring after just 77 seconds, firing home from the edge of the box following a set-piece. Arsenal responded with sustained pressure, however, and Kai Havertz equalised in the 25th minute. Martin Ødegaard then completed Arsenal’s comeback shortly after half-time. The biggest controversy…

It’s up for several awards at the Sept. 14 Primetime Emmys ceremony, including Sterling K. Brown for lead actor in a drama series, Julianne Nicholson for supporting actress in a drama series and…
Susan Sarandon says she’s lost out on movie roles due to her support of Palestine. At the Venice Film Festival on Sunday, Sarandon was asked if she thinks that the “mood [is] changing” in Hollywood as it pertains to the conflict in Gaza. “I think that the narrative has completely changed,” she responded, according to videos posted online. “There’s a lot of things that people are aware of now.” She continued: “In terms of the power structure, I’ve still had movies taken away recently, because there are agencies that are telling people not to hire me still. But that’s the…
In his exquisitely layered seventh feature,Possible Love(Ga-neung-han sa-rang),Lee Chang-dong’s humanistic observational skills remain at their peak, the acuity of his insights into emotional lives and social conditions unparalleled. More straightforward though no less affecting than the haunting ambiguities of his last film,Burning, the Korean director’s melancholic new work turns his customary slow-burn approach to the simmering tensions between two couples from different economic strata. A profound meditation on trauma, loss of dignity, yearning and class envy, this is a sad but beautiful chamber piece, fleshed out by a superlative ensemble. The project was announced as part of a series of…
Of decorated international auteurs, Cristian Mungiu has long felt particularly overdue for a stateside breakout. The Romanian master, known for his sweeping yet hyperrealistic explorations of contemporary society and its thorniest issues, has been the toast of international critics and film festivals for decades — he made three movies between 2007 and 2016, all of
Iraq has selected No Paradise If You Are Killed by a Woman from Norwegian-Kurdish director Halkawt Mustafa as its official submission for the 2027 Oscar race in the best international feature category. The film was the unanimous pick of Iraq’s official National Selection Committee for the Academy Awards, mandated by the state ministry of culture. The film follows Vyan, a Kurdish sniper who has survived war by suppressing her emotions. When she learns that her younger sister, missing since the ISIS assault in 2014, may still be alive, she returns to Mosul, determined to rescue her. Avan Jamal (The Exam)…
Danish filmmaker May el-Toukhy, one of the two female directors competing for the Golden Lion this year, in Venice with a sharp, searing analysis of the women thrown to the wolves in the aftermath of World War II. Women Unknown —Scandinavian in both its aesthetic and precision —was always going to be about class, complicity and survival. For a brief period, it was even going to focus on the Reformation witch hunts, before el-Toukhy found herself a little bored by the perpetrators. “The reasons they were hunting these women were just not that interesting,” she laughs to The Hollywood Reporter.…
When Mona (Julianne Moore) tells a friend she’s auditioned for a production of a show called Nosy Neighbors at their local theater, he admits he’s never liked musicals. They just don’t feel authentic, he explains, the way the characters are always bursting into song. Who does that? Well, no one, not even in the musical-loving The Debut. But among the first of the film’s sly tricks is that it builds a world in which it feels like people could, where in fact it feels more unnatural that they don’t. Blessed with swing-for-the-fences brio and, in Moore and Paul Giamatti, a…
MGM+ and BBC One’s A Tale of Two Cities is neither the best of adaptations nor the worst of adaptations, but Daniel West’s take on the Charles Dickens classic may well be the meh-est of adaptations. The four-part series benefits somewhat from the lack of an instantly identifiable definitive filmed interpretation of A Tale of Two Cities (depending on how you feel, I suppose, about the best picture-nominated 1935 feature) — a minor oddity given that the novel is in many ways Dickens’ most streamlined, featuring one of his best beginnings, best endings and most approachable narrative hooks. A Tale…
