Isaac Fayose, brother of former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, has launched a scathing attack on Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, accusing the former Labour Party vice-presidential candidate of bitterness and jealousy towards Peter Obi.
Fayose made the remarks in a video circulating on social media, where he criticised Datti Baba-Ahmed over his recent political positions and alleged disagreements with Obi.
Fayose accuses Datti of jealousy
According to Fayose, Datti became widely known in Nigerian politics after Peter Obi selected him as his running mate for the 2023 presidential election.
He argued that Obi may have made the wrong decision by choosing Datti, describing the former vice-presidential candidate as politically unsuccessful.
“Ahmed Datti is a failure. For you that don’t know who Ahmed Datti is, that’s his picture there. Ahmed Datti happened to be Obi’s former vice presidential candidate.
“Nobody knows this man before 2022 till Obi picked this man. To be his vice, Obi picked him.”
Fayose further accused Datti of being unhappy because Obi allegedly chose another political direction instead of retaining him as his running mate.
‘Obi is in a better place now’
The outspoken commentator also dismissed Datti’s reported advice against Obi joining the African Democratic Congress, ADC.
Fayose claimed Datti’s opposition was motivated by personal political interests and the possibility of losing another opportunity to become Obi’s vice-presidential candidate.
“Because this guy is a failure and he’s a jealous man. He’s jealous because Obi refused to pick him again as vice president,” Fayose said.
He argued that Obi’s political movement would be stronger with Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as a potential running mate, claiming the former Kano State governor possesses greater political influence in Northern Nigeria.
“Obi/Kwankwaso, OK Ticket is OK for us. Thank you for wasting our time four years ago. At least Kwankwaso na the person we have now as vice presidential candidate is more capable, more popular, more stronger, more wiser than you in the north.”
Fayose predicts political battle
Fayose also alleged that Datti could eventually align with the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, although he provided no evidence to support the claim.
He challenged Datti to continue criticising Obi, insisting that such criticism would only increase the former Labour Party presidential candidate’s popularity.
“If you like, go to all the stations, all the TV stations, all the podcasts, whatever you can do, go anywhere and condemn Obi. The more you condemn Obi, the more people are loving the man,” he added.
The remarks come amid growing political realignments and debates surrounding opposition figures ahead of Nigeria’s next general election.
