A Nigerian lady has expressed frustration over the country’s persistent electricity challenges, saying prolonged power outages have affected her work, job opportunities and ability to create content.

The lady, who spoke in a video circulating on social media, said she normally avoids making videos when she encounters problems but decided to speak out over the difficulties she faced while trying to complete a makeup video.

She questioned why electricity remains difficult to access in Nigeria in 2026, noting that poor power supply has affected people trying to meet professional and personal commitments.

“Why is electricity still hard to get in 2026? In big 2026. Do you know how many people have missed job interviews? Do you know how many people have missed foreign gigs? Because of electricity,” she said.

Recalling her experience as a writer, she said she previously had to visit a friend’s house to charge her laptop so she could meet deadlines while working on projects for clients in the United States.

“I would literally go to a friend’s house to go and charge my laptop so that I’ll be able to write and submit amidst deadlines,” she said.

According to her, the situation recently affected her participation in the Face of Beauty by AD contest after her lighting equipment ran out of power while she was filming a makeup video.

She said she had already started applying her makeup and was halfway through the recording when the lights went out, leaving her without electricity to recharge her equipment.

“I shot this video yesterday. Halfway through, my lights died. Why did my lights die? Because there’s no light to charge the photo light. I don’t have any source of electricity,” she said.

The lady claimed that residents in her area rarely receive electricity, adding that even when power is restored, the supply is sometimes too weak to run essential appliances.

“In a month, we only get lights like five times and even if they bring the lights, you see how shit these stupid lights is. Even when they bring it, it is so low it can’t power anything,” she said.

She explained that the poor electricity supply has also made it difficult for her to create makeup and fashion content, particularly because of the heat and inadequate ventilation.

“I don’t create as much makeup videos or even fashion videos because why would it be crazy? I’d be sweating like a she-goat,” she said.

She further disclosed that she had to spend part of her limited income on fuel after her equipment could not be charged due to the power outage.

“Mind you, I am literally basically almost unemployed because how much am I getting in a month? I brought out from that money to buy fuel,” she said.

Expressing deeper frustration, the lady said the situation had become mentally and physically exhausting and was affecting her ability to pursue the life she wants.

“This place is fucking with my mental health. It is fucking with my capacity. It is fucking with the life that I know I want for myself,” she said.

She concluded by reiterating her anger over the situation, saying she feels trapped by the circumstances around her.

“I just hate this country,” she said.
