A Nigerian lady has recounted her alleged experience working at Gtext, a company founded by businessman Stephen Akintayo, claiming employees were required to engage with his social media posts and those of the company daily.

In a post shared by a user identified as @tori_vee, the lady described her experience as her “favourite horror story,” alleging that workers were expected to comment on Stephen’s posts and the company’s posts 30 times daily from Monday to Friday.

“We were required to comment on his posts and the company’s posts 30 times daily, Monday to Friday. If we forgot or didn’t complete the 30 comments, our salary would be deducted. They once deducted ₦10,000 from my salary because I forgot to comment 30 times because work was hectic and I didn’t have time,” she wrote.

She also alleged that employees were sometimes instructed to post Stephen and the company on their WhatsApp Status using complimentary captions provided by the company.

According to her, she often felt embarrassed when people questioned why she repeatedly posted her boss, as she did not want to reveal that it was allegedly a work instruction tied to her salary.

The lady further claimed that she experienced delayed salary payments during her time with the company, alleging that her December salary was not paid until February and that she received only 60 percent of it.

“My December salary wasn’t paid until February, and he paid me only 60 percent. January and February salaries were still outstanding when I resigned on March,” she added.

The woman’s account has generated discussions online, with social media users sharing their views on workplace expectations, salary deductions and delayed payments.
