Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing Sunday has paid an emotional tribute to her late mother following her defeat to reality TV star Phyna in a celebrity boxing bout.
The actress reflected on her first experience inside a boxing ring while sharing a picture of herself with her late mother on social media.
Although Nkechi Blessing did not emerge victorious against Phyna, she described the experience as a significant personal achievement, saying she entered the ring with courage despite having never fought anyone before.
Nkechi Blessing reflects on first boxing fight
According to the actress, she had trained for only two days before stepping into the ring against Phyna.
She said the experience required courage because the boxing ring was unfamiliar territory for her, adding that she fought in front of millions of people.
“AFIANMA…..Your precious child was on a boxing ring for the first time in all my years on earth I have never raised up my hands to fight any soul, but Yesterday I stood on an unfamiliar stage with just one thing, COURAGE
and infront of millions of people I fought like a warrior, mummy your daughter did not win, but her fight won’t leave the mouth of millions in a hurry….”
The actress acknowledged that Phyna got the victory but maintained that her performance and determination had left a lasting impression.
Actress asks if her mother was watching
Nkechi Blessing, who dedicated her performance to her late mother, said she wished her mother could have been physically present to watch her enter the ring.
She also recalled that she requested her mother’s favourite song to be played before the fight, making the moment particularly emotional for her.
“Mama thank you for raising a strong woman, a fighter and an unstoppable child of grace…
“It was indeed a great experience even after training for just two days…Will I do this again? OH YES
did I make you proud? Mummy were you watching? Did you also hear when they played your favorite song? I wanted you around that was why I asked for that song…”
Jennifer became emotional before the fight
The actress also revealed that someone identified as Jennifer was already crying before she entered the ring, adding that she believed her late mother would have been proud of her.
“Jennifer was even crying before I entered the ring,the way old is proud of me right now and I am sure you are too. Keep resting in peace mummy..I love you forever
”
Her comments showed that, beyond the outcome of the celebrity boxing contest, the event carried a deeply personal meaning for her.

She described the experience as one she would not forget easily and said she was open to stepping into the ring again.
