You are choosing money over Gods blessings — Pastor reacts as driver resigns for ₦250k job

A Nigerian pastor in Port Harcourt has reportedly questioned his driver’s decision to resign after receiving a better-paying job offer, telling him he was choosing money over God’s blessings.

According to a narration shared by the driver’s acquaintance, the pastor paid the young man ₦120,000 monthly, provided food when they travelled together and promised to help him settle down.

After working for almost a year, the driver reportedly requested a salary increase, but the pastor told him to appreciate the opportunity to work in God’s vineyard.

The driver accepted the response and continued working until he received an offer from a company willing to pay him ₦250,000 monthly.

Pastor questions driver’s decision to resign

The young man subsequently submitted his resignation, prompting the pastor to invite him into his office to discuss his decision.

During their conversation, the pastor reportedly asked why he wanted to leave a workplace where he enjoyed spiritual covering.

The driver explained that he needed better pay, but the pastor warned him against prioritising money over divine blessings.

According to the account, the pastor told him, “You are making a big mistake by choosing money over God’s blessings.”

Despite the warning, the driver proceeded with his decision to leave for the new job, which offered more than double his previous monthly salary.

Story raises questions about salaries and faith

The account highlights a broader conversation about workers’ financial needs, fair compensation and the role of faith in employment relationships.

While the pastor reportedly provided additional benefits, including meals during trips, the driver’s decision suggests that his existing earnings were no longer sufficient for his needs.

The story also raises questions about whether promises of spiritual benefits should influence an employee’s decision to seek better-paying work.

However, the account does not establish the pastor’s full perspective or whether he had fulfilled his promise to help the driver settle down.
