According to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner records, Piane died on Monday after allegedly being hit by a car in Glendale, California.
Piane worked on the main “Drag Race” show from Seasons 1-8, composing the music and the Russian numbers.
He has also worked on “Drag Race: All Stars.” Piane also collaborated with RuPaul, writing some of the host’s most popular songs, including “Cover Girl,” “Sissy That Walk,” “Jealous of My Boogie,” “Born Naked,” “Champion,” and “Main Event.”

He also received a Grammy nomination for his work on the soundtrack to the 2007 film “Hairspray.”
Before his death, Piane struggled with substance abuse and mental health issues. Fans and friends expressed concern for Piane online after he posted a series of disturbing videos on Instagram.
Many people urged him to “get sober and stay sober,” and wrote, “This is so sad to see.” Lucian, please seek assistance.
Journalist Larry Flick paid tribute to Piane, writing, “Lucian was my friend. It was not always easy. He was troubled, complicated, and full of rage that he couldn’t control. Like many others, I attempted to help until he made it impossible. Guilt is very real right now. He died tragically and brutally. But I pray he finds rest and peace on the other side.”
Piane was born on October 4 in Kansas City, Missouri. Variety has contacted representatives from “RuPaul’s Drag Race” for comment.
