According to the most recent global passport rankings, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) holds the title of the world’s most powerful passport in 2026.

Passport rankings are determined by the number of countries a holder can enter without applying for a visa in advance.

The most powerful passports ranking rises as the number of available destinations increases.

Most Powerful Passports: UAE tops 2026 passport ranking

Top 10 Most Powerful Passports in 2026, UAE Takes the Lead

The UAE leads the pack, allowing citizens to travel to 182 countries without a visa. Singapore and Malaysia tie for second place, with holders gaining access to 175 destinations in Asia, Europe, and beyond.

Spain ranks third, granting citizens access to 174 countries as well as the right to live and work anywhere in the European Union.

Check out the following post on X about the UAE passport being named the world’s most powerful passport in 2026:

A large group of countries shares fourth place: Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Denmark, Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands, Finland, Italy, Switzerland, Greece, Portugal, Austria, Croatia, Norway, Ireland, and Japan, all of which offer visa-free travel to 173 countries.

Malta, Slovenia, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Estonia, Latvia, and South Korea come in fifth place, with access to 172 destinations each.

Romania, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, and Lithuania are tied for sixth place with 171 countries, with EU members retaining the right to live and work across the bloc. Cyprus and the United Kingdom are seventh, with access to 170 countries.

Canada, Liechtenstein, and New Zealand rank eighth with 169 destinations, while Iceland and Australia are tied for ninth with 168 countries.

The United States rounds out the top ten with access to 167 destinations, down one spot from a year earlier.

American passport holders can still travel to most major global destinations with little to no advance visa requirements.

India and Pakistan rank low in passport index

Outside the top ten, India is ranked 70th in the global passport index. Pakistan is ranked 42nd, but its passport holders have significantly limited travel access, with only 13 visa-free destinations available, making it one of the most restricted passports in the rankings.

The difference between the most and least powerful passports demonstrates how much a citizen’s country of birth influences their ability to travel freely around the world.

The top ten most powerful passports as of October 2026 are listed below, along with their respective countries and total mobility scores:

  1. United Arab Emirates: 182
  2. Singapore: 175
  3. Malaysia: 175
  4. Spain: 174
  5. Belgium: 173
  6. Luxembourg: 173
