I want my country back — Charly Boy

Veteran Nigerian entertainer and activist, Charly Boy, has called for a better Nigeria where human lives are valued and leadership is centred on service.

Charly Boy made the remarks in a viral social media post while expressing concerns over insecurity, poor healthcare, migration and what he described as poor leadership in the country.

Charly Boy calls for change

The entertainer questioned how citizens could maintain patriotism when they continue to face hardships and insecurity.

He compared the situation to an abusive relationship, asking whether patriotism could begin to resemble someone claiming to love an abusive spouse.

Charly Boy said he wanted Nigeria to return to a country that citizens could genuinely love and believe in.

He also called for a Nigeria where human lives are not treated as statistics and where citizens can access healthcare without worrying about whether they can afford treatment.

He further criticised decisions by government that, according to him, leave ordinary Nigerians as casualties.

On insecurity, Charly Boy said citizens should not have to flee from those expected to protect them.

He also lamented the growing number of young Nigerians leaving the country in search of better opportunities and a more fulfilling life.

‘I want my country back’

Charly Boy called for leadership that prioritises service, competence and the welfare of citizens.

He said his vision of a better Nigeria goes beyond the country portrayed by politicians during public speeches.

He described it as the Nigeria that lives in citizens’ dreams, reflects the hopes of previous generations and provides a better future for children.

He concluded by saying he still wants to love Nigeria but wants the country to become worthy of that love.

“Biko, I want my country back.

Not the Nigeria wey politicians describe from podiums.

The Nigeria wey live inside our dreams.

The Nigeria wey our parents believed in.

The Nigeria wey our children deserve.”

I WANT MY COUNTRY BACK

I want to Love my country as I once did before the civil war.
How do I love my country when it keeps hurting me?
At what point does patriotism begin to look like
a spouse saying,
“I love my abuser”?

I want my country back.

I want a New Nigeria
