Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Professor Kingsley Moghalu, has rejected his inclusion in the policy team of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar’s campaign for the 2027 presidential election.
Moghalu said he was neither consulted nor asked for his consent before his name was included in the campaign structure unveiled by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential campaign team.
‘I was not consulted’
Reacting to the announcement, Moghalu said he was surprised to see his name listed as a member of Atiku’s policy team.
He stated that he had not agreed to serve on the team in any capacity.
“I was not consulted and did not give my consent to my name being published as a member of the ADC candidate’s policy team,” Moghalu said.
He further clarified that he was not associated with Atiku’s policy team, either officially or in an advisory capacity.
“I am NOT, in fact, a member of Atiku’s policy team, even unofficially or in any advisory capacity,” he added.
Moghalu says he left partisan politics
The former CBN deputy governor also reiterated that he left partisan politics in Nigeria in 2022.
According to him, he has maintained a non-partisan position in the country’s national affairs and does not belong to or support any political party.
“I have quit partisan politics in Nigeria since 2022. I have maintained, and continue to maintain, my non-partisan posture in our country’s national affairs. I am not a member or sympathizer of any political party in Nigeria,” he said.
His current engagements
Moghalu said his current professional engagements are focused on public policy and geopolitical risk advisory.
He identified himself as the President of IGET Africa, which he described as a non-partisan public policy think tank and executive education academy.
He also serves as Chief Executive Officer of Sogato Strategies, a geopolitical risk and regulatory strategy advisory firm.
‘Statesmanship, not partisanship’
Moghalu stressed that remaining committed to Nigeria does not necessarily require partisan political involvement.
“I remain committed to my country, Nigeria and its progress, but such commitment does not have to entail ANY partisan alignment,” he said.
“I have adopted the path of statesmanship, not partisanship.”
His statement came shortly after Atiku’s campaign unveiled its structure for the 2027 presidential election, listing Moghalu as a member of its policy team.
The campaign named economist and banker Mohammed Hayatu-Deen as head of the policy team, with Professor Mohammed Sagagi as deputy chairman.
