Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez have officially become husband and wife after getting married in a private civil ceremony in Cascais, Portugal.
The football superstar and Rodriguez announced the marriage on Tuesday through a joint Instagram post featuring their hands and matching gold wedding rings. The post, captioned “C
G”, quickly attracted more than a million likes.
The ceremony was attended by the couple’s five children and was described as a private and intimate occasion by Ronaldo’s representative.
Couple choose private wedding
A representative confirmed the marriage to the UK Mirror, saying Ronaldo and Rodriguez “were married today in a civil ceremony in Cascais, Portugal, and are now officially husband and wife.”
The couple chose Cascais, a coastal town west of Lisbon, rather than Ronaldo’s native Madeira, where supporters had gathered over the weekend expecting to see the pair at a possible wedding ceremony.
Their decision reflects Ronaldo’s previous comments about wanting a low-key celebration. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner had indicated that Rodriguez preferred private occasions rather than a large public wedding.
Ronaldo proposed to Rodriguez last year, presenting her with a large diamond engagement ring after years together.
From Madrid meeting to marriage
Ronaldo and Rodriguez first met in 2016 while she was working at a Gucci store in Madrid.
Their relationship became public the following year, and they have since built a family together.
Their children include Cristiano Jr, twins Mateo and Eva, Alana Martina and Bella Esmeralda. Mateo and Eva were born through surrogacy, while Rodriguez is the biological mother of Alana and Bella.
The couple also had a son, Angel, who died during childbirth in 2022. Bella survived the birth.
Ronaldo previously spoke about his proposal while discussing the couple’s plans for marriage.
“We plan to do it after the World Cup with the trophy!” he said, while explaining that Rodriguez did not want a large celebration.
“She likes private things. So I will respect these decisions,” Ronaldo added.
The marriage brings the couple’s decade-long relationship to a new stage after years of raising their family together while Ronaldo continued his football career across Europe and Saudi Arabia.
