How I spent 2 days on the road travelling from Benin to Port Harcourt — Lady

A lady has narrated how a road trip from Benin City, Edo State, to Port Harcourt, Rivers State, which was expected to take about six hours, turned into a two-day journey.

The traveller shared her experience in a viral video while describing the traffic, alternative routes and overnight stops that prolonged her journey.

Journey begins amid transportation challenges

According to the lady, she became concerned about the journey after visiting three different transport companies without finding a vehicle heading to Port Harcourt because it was Sunday.

She said she eventually got a vehicle and left Benin around 1:12 p.m., but heavy rainfall started almost immediately.

“This is how I spent two days and one night on a road trip that was supposed to take at most six hours. Travel with me from Benin to Port Harcourt,” she said.

She explained that traffic became severe around the Benin bypass, forcing the driver to search for an alternative route.

“Getting to the Benin bypass, everywhere was blocked like they locked the whole place and threw the key into a river,” she said.

The driver reportedly diverted through several communities, where the passengers allegedly paid money at different points to continue their journey.

“And as we passed through different communities, community boys were stopping us and collecting money. 200, 500, 300,” she said.

She added that they paid at about five or six different points while passing through the communities.

Traffic leaves passengers stranded for hours

The lady said they later encountered another major traffic jam after attempting to bypass the initial congestion.

“When we thought we have bypassed the traffic, we entered a choir and everywhere was blocked,” she said.

According to her, they arrived at the location before 2 p.m. and remained trapped in traffic until after 7 p.m.

She said some passengers eventually came down from the vehicle because they were exhausted from sitting for several hours.

While they waited, some passengers reportedly began discussing politics and the 2027 elections.

“Then I said to myself, now who don chop suppose dey talk Nigerian matter o,” she said.

She added that she brought out her food and began eating while the political discussion continued.

Travellers spend night in Onitsha

The passengers eventually arrived in Onitsha at about 10 p.m., but the driver reportedly decided against continuing because of safety concerns.

“We eventually got to Onitsha around 10 p.m. and the driver said he was no longer continuing because it wasn’t safe,” she said.

She said they spent the night at Peace Mass Park in Onitsha, where other buses from different states also arrived.

According to her, some drivers later decided to travel together around 2 a.m., forming what she described as a small convoy.

“We basically formed a small convoy,” she said.

However, their journey was interrupted again after reaching Ouewe at about 3:30 a.m.

“We got to Ouewe around 3.30 a.m. and guess what? They told us to sleep again and continue by 6 a.m. At this point, I had already accepted my fate,” she said.

Lady finally arrives in Port Harcourt

The passengers resumed their journey at 6 a.m. and eventually entered Port Harcourt around 9 a.m.

“6 a.m. we continued and finally around 9 something in the morning, we entered Port Harcourt. Thank God I am home,” she said.
