Nigerian rapper Erhiga Agarivbie, nicknamed Erigga, stirred a dispute on social networking app X by complimenting musicians who did not come from wealthy families and had to work for their money.

In a tweet late Tuesday, the rapper tweeted on his X profile, “Shoutout to all the musicians who don’t come from family money and had to grind for every single dollar they earn.”

Afrobeats star Davido, reacted to the post by quoting the tweet and countering that musicians from wealthy backgrounds deserve recognition for working their way “to the top.”

On Wednesday night, Davido boldly tweeted, “No be we say make your pops no guard o. Shoutout to those that started with family money and continue to work their way up.”

The ‘Omo Baba Olowo’ crooner then branded Erigga’s post as “useless motivation,” and referred to the rapper as a “imbecile.”

The exchange has now sparked conflicting comments on X, with approximately 35,000 posts related to the dispute.

While some commenters applauded Erigga for merely appreciating artists that have achieved success despite having a less fortunate financial background, others believed that the rapper’s tweet was a hidden hit at Davido, who comes from an affluent family.

One X user, Moses5_a, wrote, “This tweet is so innocuous. I’m not sure why folks are crying about it. He was plainly not mocking anyone, but someone took offense. If you’ve followed Erigga since 2020, you’ll know he’s all about inspiration.

When will you ever act your age? Quit throwing ignorant shade. Nobody stopped your ancestors or father from securing the bag. “You can chase X money without hating the rich.”

One user known as Shandymoney challenged Eriga, stating, “Kuku, mention Davido.”

In reference to Davido, X user CrystalReignz wrote, “Give them back to back, nobody has the right to discredit your effort.”

Mautiin01, an X user, asked, “But how you take know say na you he dey follow talk? You catch sub.”

HonitelHQ wrote, “You have an extremely poor self-esteem, which is truly pitiful. That tweet contains no mention of your name. You are not the only artist in Nigeria who makes money. The tweet is not even a sub, yet your insecurity prevents you from ignoring something unrelated to you.

“You, too, have main character syndrome. You always want to focus on yourself. “This is such a sad way to live life, man.”

Another X user, Feyitayo2724, commented, “Do you realize how foolish you sound? The simplest method to succeed in life is through inheritance (being born into a wealthy family). If you weren’t born rich, blame your parents, and don’t try to diminish the achievements of others just because they come from a wealthy family.
