Please Don’t Destroy the SNL cast. Martin Herlihy has decided to exit Saturday Night Live after five seasons, a person with knowledge of the situation told The Hollywood Reporter. Herlihy, who primarily served as a writer on the show, is one-third of comedy group Please Don’t Destroy and the son of SNL legend Tim Herlihy. Martin Herlihy follows fellow Please Don’t Destroy nepo-comic John Higgins, the son of Steve Higgins, out the Studio 8H door — albeit one year (and one week) later. Steve Higgins has been an SNL producer since the mid-1990s; he’s also Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show announcer.…

Success was hardly guaranteed for Tip Toe. The new drama from the prolific, BAFTA-winning scribe Russell T Davies (Queer as Folk, Doctor Who) ranks among the most visceral, discomfiting and uncompromising watches you’ll see on TV this year. The first episode opens with the literal hanging of an affable gay man named Leo (Alan Cumming) outside of his flat in Manchester. Over the five hours that follow, the series tracks what led to the tragedy — specifically, his complicated relationship with his resentful, bigoted next-door neighbor, Clive (David Morrissey). The strength of the show is that it operates on levels…

In Aaron Sorkin’s The Social Reckoning, Jeremy Strong plays Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg in a sequel (or “companion piece,” as Sony insists on calling it) to The Social Network. The project…

The TV viewing options for science fiction fans in the fall of 1966 were limited, but not nonexistent. Lost in Space was starting its second season on CBS, and Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea was heading into its third on ABC. The producer of both of those, Irwin Allen, also had The Time Tunnel debuting on ABC. None of those shows would last beyond 1968. Nor did any of them give rise to an enduring, beloved TV and movie franchise like the other new sci-fi series that fall, Star Trek. Gene Roddenberry’s series debuted 60 years ago, airing…

Paramount is continuing to press a dozen states led by California and the Writers Guild of America to bear the costs of the hold up caused by their lawsuits challenging the $111 billion megamerger. In July, U.S. District Judge Araceli Martínez-Olguín temporarily halted the deal and scheduled a trial for March, months past its target closing date of late September. There will be major financial repercussions for the delay. Under the agreement, Warners shareholders are owed roughly $650 million per quarter or $6.9…

The former managing editor of 60 Minutes broke his silence on his 2026 exit from the program, where he said editorial independence had become a “casualty of corporate priorities and ideological intrusion,” in a social media post reported on by The Guardian on Tuesday. Guy Campanile, who says he was a 34-year veteran of CBS News, was subject to a round of firings in May as new leader Bari Weiss overhauled 60 Minutes. In his words, the axing came as he and several colleagues “refused to be accomplices in the destruction of the most prestigious news program on American television.”…

What’s happened to Canadian film and TV during the past year was so pivotal, you could put it on a bumper sticker. Donald Trump threatening Canada with economic tariffs and 51st-state taunts unleashed a groundswell of Canadian patriotism. Borrowing from hockey, an “Elbows up!” movement followed, as audiences countrywide embraced homegrown movies and TV shows. Producers behind breakout hits like Heated Rivalry and Backrooms became rare Canadian talents that Hollywood covets, while Canadian financiers found new ways to make local media content for world markets — without relying on Hollywood. Whether it’s Mike Myers mouthing the words “Elbows up!” on…
